Wheat Government Relations is active in numerous legislative and regulatory practice areas, a few of which are listed below.  We welcome the opportunity to discuss your areas of interest.

  • Appropriations – The federal appropriations is complex, but when you know the system and the key policy makers like Wheat Government Relations, it can be an excellent source of funding for meritorious projects.  We help our clients identify funding opportunities through the annual appropriations bills and have a proven track record of receiving funding for special projects.

  • Business Development – We help businesses access the federal government to develop new markets for products and services.  Educating key policymakers and agency officials about a company’s product creates advantages that wouldn’t be realized otherwise.  Wheat Government Relations opens doors into the federal contract business market.

  • Corporate Responsibility – No matter how much good a company or organization does, unless public policy makers and government officials know about it, the full benefits of those efforts are not being recognized.  Be it proactive or reactive corporate responsibility actions, we make sure the right people understand and appreciate your hard work.

  • Education – Education in America is undergoing dynamic change.  We have long-term established relationships with leading legislators on education matters and an intimate knowledge of education issues.  Wheat Government Relations has worked to reform education policy for clients ranging from small community groups and Native American community colleges to the largest national for-profit university.  We have successfully secured federal funds for state land grant colleges and private institutions.

  • Environment – Issues surrounding environment, natural resources and public works require delicate and focused attention in order to get results on Capitol Hill.  Congressman Wheat and his team have excellent working relationships with the legislators with jurisdiction over these issues.  We are experts at moving complicated projects smoothly.

  • Financial Services – Our expertise in this area has allowed our clients to help shape Government Sponsored Enterprises reform legislation, predatory lending policy, credit union policy and housing rights. We work closely with the committees of jurisdiction to make sure our client’s voices are heard.

  • Health Care – A major focus for Wheat Government Relations is helping clients navigate the complexities of health care policy in the legislative and regulatory branches of the U.S. Government.  Our successes are numerous; including but not limited to increased funding for health related programs (e.g., nursing education, medical research, AIDS funding, etc.), introduction of comprehensive legislation (e.g., to improve care for individuals with chronic conditions and their caregivers), and report language directing federal agencies to act upon national health care policy (e.g., Medicare reform, mandating a study of mental health services available to military personnel and their families in combat theaters).

  • Homeland Security – As our nation develops new policies and processes to deal with threats, communities will have new demands placed upon them and companies will have new opportunities to provide products and services to federal, state and local governments.  Wheat Government Relations understanding of homeland security policy and the process through which new mandates and programs are funded enables our clients to help serve the needs of our nation.

  • Native American Issues – As Native Americans continue to build their voice in Washington, DC, it is important that they have a partner who respects their rights and sovereign interest.  We have an extensive and successful relationship with Native American communities across the nation.  Gaming, education, health, energy, welfare, and civil rights are just a few of the areas in which we have worked on behalf on Native American Communities.

  • Nursing –Wheat Government Relations works with some of the nations leading associations representing a broad range of nursing specialties.  We have helped our clients advance and protect critical policies and funding for nursing, as well as built strong coalitions with other nursing organizations to ensure a unified voice behind vital issues.
