James H. Bilbray  
J Bilbray The Honorable James H. Bilbray, Principal, received his B.A. in Government and Public Administration from the American University in Washington D.C. in 1962, and his Juris Doctor from the Washington College of Law in 1964. Congressman Bilbray is a Nevada native, and prior to being elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1987 was a Nevada State Senator, where he chaired the powerful Taxation Committee and was a member of the Judiciary Committee.

During his 4 terms in the United States Congress, he was Chairman of the Small Business Subcommittee on Taxation, Tourism and Procurement, and was a member of the Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, and Intelligence Committees. He joined the Firm as Of Counsel in 1996, where he has specialized in dealing with local, state and federal issues.

On December 8, 2001, he received an honorary doctorate of laws from the University of Nevada Las Vegas for his extensive contributions to the State and U.S. government.

Over his long professional career, Congressman Bilbray has represented:

  • The City of Las Vegas
  • Clark County, Nevada
  • The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority
  • The University of Nevada Las Vegas

In the past, Congressman Bilbray has also served on the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada, the Board of Visitors of the United States Air Force Academy, and the Board of Visitors of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He also served on the Advisory Board of the U.S. National Security Policy board.

Congressman Bilbray formerly served as director of the Lady Luck Gaming Corporation and on the advisory board of SRD Corporation, a corporation specializing in casino security. He has been licensed to practice before the Nevada Gaming Board and Commission since 1970.

One of Congressman Bilbray’s most recent achievements and ongoing endeavors was his appointment by the Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to serve on the 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC).
